Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and equipment with new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute benefit, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, gathered in loot, thrown away by enemies or as rewards from missions or chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the user must choose it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade stats and the required component or materials.

There are three kinds of universal upgrades (which include gems) Prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are gems that are only available in legendary and ascended equipment. They provide the same bonuses as jewels, but cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades that can be put in gathering tools, add their names to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for instance adding a Glyph to a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools If a player replaces one glyph with a different one the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, with the exception of the inscriptions that can be swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system is different from the previous versions in a few fundamental ways. Gear is now divided into tracks, and items can only be upgraded a set number of times before being "leveled out." The cost for upgrades increases with each level however the materials required don't increase as much. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few items and maximize the impact of these items, rather than spreading upgrade costs over multiple pieces.

This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components, and have a greater chance of success. This bonus is called the Artisan's Energy. It resets to 0 if an upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it will be able to receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The number of affixes available will depend on the item's type. For example, an uncommon or unique weapon that has a standard base will only have two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade process requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, based on whether the item is at its current level and in what slot it is placed in. Weapons typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not reach its max level the NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to another person and then re-infuse the item with another set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will result in a lower chance of success.

To measure the height of a building, engineers will utilize a level to compare the measurement to an established reference point like a benchmark, or the elevation of the ground. This process is known as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod, then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to an extremely high level of accuracy and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item upgrader mod. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength and damage as well as other characteristics. It is possible to do this through the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button whenever you upgrade an item upgrader mod. Rerolling is costly and should only be used in very rare instances.

The game lets players recycle upgraded items, and use them to earn tokens for rerolls. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item upgrades or another item of the same type. Recyclable items come with an indicator that indicates the level of upgrade. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.

The game also features several sets, that offer a set-based bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are placed on a unit. This is a great method to add lots of power to a specific character without spending a lot of money.

Sets

Clicking the Upgrade button will display the attributes of the item as well as the necessary items needed to upgrade it. This will display the item's attributes, along with the required items to upgrade it. To upgrade the No-mouth Face for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Players can also visit the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the upgrade requirements for specific items.

Generally speaking the jewelry and weapons have greater value for trading when fully upgraded than armor. Particularly for weapons with spell/weapon damage glyphs upgrading them to gold is recommended as it will give a substantial improvement in their stats. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this, since its defense value will increase as it moves from purple to gold.
