World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all its leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

It's not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item upgrader mod or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
