Albums

Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Before Toto was formed, members of the band performed session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggsalbum from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 following the collaboration.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked a change from the more progressive sound of their previous efforts and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985 the group's singer Fergie Frederiksen quit the group, and the band held auditions for the new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in the year 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The band went through old recordings and tapes to create the unique record. The album was well received by fans and the band embarked on a tour featuring former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun, drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with Toto.

Toto has released a variety of music videos. The group has also released numerous compilation videos and DVDs. The most watched video by the band is "Africa", which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library, with the band performing on top of an African book stack.

The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. It was written by band members and produced by David Paich. It was a huge hit in Europe and many other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their popularity after their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in the United States.

Toto began a global tour following the release their album. The group was joined by tour musicians Lenny Castro, Shannon Forrest, Warren Ham and Shem von Schroeck. In addition, guitarist Steve Lukather released his second solo album, Luke.

Drummer Jeff Porcaro and bassist David Hungate were on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs, which led to Toto's formation.
