How to Replace an replacement audi keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

happy-young-woman-with-key-sitting-in-new-car-2022-12-16-21-31-14-utc-min-scaled.jpgIn this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car key replacement audi will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available particularly when you're looking at the Bosch model, which is what ours are. You can also choose the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause replacement key for audi numerous issues in your vehicle. It's a vital component of the audi Tt Key case's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those points. This is a common part that is found across the audi spare key replacement 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
