WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade item also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will display a preview of the item Level upgrade at the next upgrade items level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from another set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It's Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
